The Demon Beat
Shit, We're 23Shit, We’re 23 is the new full length album from the West Virginia trio The Demon Beat. Members Adam Meisterhans (guitars, vocals), Tucker Riggleman (bass) and Jordan Hudkins (drums) have been pounding out their unique sound for years through non-stop touring across the East Coast. If The Black Keys had a bass player and played with the energy of The Stooges they would sound something like The Demon Beat. We’re 23 is a collection of ten exciting and raucous tracks that fulfills the expectations of those who have seen their exhilarating live shows. The album kicks off with “Got You Movin’” a great tune driven by intense drumming and a killer base line. The jangling pop of “Millionaire” and “Make My Move” are tracks that deserve radio play. “Memory Ain’t Enough” has intricate time changes and breaks down in the middle with a psychedelic guitar drone which fades into the fantastic stoner ballad “You Got It.” In songs like “Crawl” and “This Is No Fun,” Meisterhans expresses punk-like rage through his lyrics, vocals and brilliant guitar work. “The Game” is another complicated song that illustrates the band’s impressive musicianship, and the heavily reverbed “Can’t You” breaks new ground and demonstrates their eclectic sound. Finally, the bluesy fury of the closing track “Bad Man” is a truly staggering and arresting song that exemplifies the sensational talent that is The Demon Beat. Hopefully, this album and their continuous touring eventually will make them millionaires.
